Throwing Sticks At Trees

I need to remember to make time to throw sticks at trees with my family.

summerIt has been a long summer. I feel like I have been planning the new school year for months and months (and I have). A number of weeks ago I finished and felt like I was at sea without an anchor. What do I spend time on now? Everything is written, printed, labeled, organized, and cleaned…

Well, I had forgotten the most important part of homeschooling. The reason I spend so much of my life planning and working with homeschool materials: my kids. I need to remember to spend time enjoying our family and playing with my kids!

So we began a tradition: Field Trip Month. In fact Field Trip Month is less than a month. And we don’t have a field trip every day. And we still do spelling and math. But it’s Field Trip Month nonetheless. Beach trips, an evening at the circus, hiking excursions, evening picnics at parks and lots of adventures later, we are coming to the end of Field Trip Month. I can tell the kids are refreshed. I feel refreshed and ready to tackle the start of the logic phase of the kids’ schooling phase. And the Hub is happy. Family time is so very important for us and I tend to forget it unless I have something to remind me.

And so we spent a month happily throwing sticks at trees.
