ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HER TIMES
Cindy Neuschwander was born in California and after traveling the world as she grew up, she ended back there as an elementary teacher. No matter what she does, or where she goes, Cindy has a love and a talent for teaching children math in unique and lasting ways, with stories.
My children absolutely loved her math picture books when they were little. Every page of each adventure is filled with math concepts and hidden surprises. Your child gets a foreshadowing of the final math concept that the characters must use to solve the problem or the mystery in the story. And at the end of each book is a section that explains the math concept and shows your child, and you, what happened in the story to solve the problem.
Cindy’s books cover all the elementary math concepts taught today, from addition, to place value, to division and multiplication. The really great part is that every concept is applied to a real-world situation, which shows your children that all math has a use.
The amazing math adventures in each book associate a character or a plot along with a type of math in your child’s brain, which is a truly powerful method of learning.

These sound really interesting – have to add them to our list to see if our library has them.
We have a couple of these but I have never been able to get my girls to want to read them. I know they have done great things for lots of readers, though.
