Unlimited books are a dream come true for me
I am always on the lookout for inexpensive, and preferably free, books for my kids. I rate libraries by how many GA Henty novels are in their stacks. Yes, I am that geeky homeschool mom! But when I found an unlimited supply, I was happier that a pig in mud!
I was thrilled to find the Hathi Trust Digital Library.
Do you know it already?
Well if you don’t know about this online, free library you really should check it out!
Anyone can go online and read the books in their partner-supplied collections. These are great copies of the books, not those hard-to-read versions like those you find in Project Gutenberg. These books scanned and formatted correctly and the illustrations and covers are intact.
And, yes, those books include over 40 GA Henty books and 1744 books filled with fairy tales!
But just imagine what your child can do with 863 original documents from the American Colonies!
Or 286 Writings and Books and Sermons by John Wesley.
Imagine what your child can do with unlimited books! All free to read online with a computer or mobile device like your kindle.
One last note, though. The books are mostly for older children and adults, but I also found lots of picture books for young children in the collections as well. Here is a version of “The House That Jack Built” published in about 1912. And there are oodles of others!
