Take Your Kids Out And Look Up

planetsSummer is a wonderful time for nature studies and sky-watching. Last night we were outside with the neighbors watching Venus and Jupiter (pictured to the right). We talked about what the ancients must have thought when confronted by a view of planets that appear so close you can almost see their moons with the naked eye. When kids get to touch and see and taste the world around them, I think they really truly are learning.

The view of these planets is around for the next few days, even though last night they appeared in the sky at their closest point. For us the best viewing is shortly after sundown.
