Enjoy The Ride!

5 Days of Homeschooling Twins – Part of the 5 Days of Homeschooling Blog Hop

Enjoy The Ride!

This week in my Homeschooling with Twins series, I opened up the can of worms to look at some things that sometimes make us uncomfortable.

We talked about

  • coming to terms with that twin bond that sometimes leaves you to play second fiddle (or maybe even third)
  • ways to break through the noise of twins
  • gaining respect and the good kind of authority
  • stepping aside and letting your twins help each other

Now that is done, let’s focus on the good stuff.

The only thing more joyful than having children for me is to homeschool them and share their moments, good and bad. Homeschooling really does change everyone in the family (mom and dad included) and tightens and strengthens the bonds within your family. I have noticed now that my twins are in their teens, we are becoming fast friends.

My daughter asked me the other evening why people think they cannot be friends with their kids. I think that it is hard to avoid being influenced by others who offer advice concerning how to raise your kids and how to teach your kids. But everyone is unique. Every family is different. I love my children with an unbounded and fathomless love that has carried me into this homeschooling adventure.

I can be teacher and parent and friend to both my kids – that is what makes us all happy. That is what works for us.

Whatever works for you is exactly the path you should take in your homeschool.

So Jump In and Enjoy The Ride!

What works for you?

And do you every find yourself influenced by an off-hand remark by a relative, friend, or acquaintance?

  1. We should all be enjoying the ride as much as possible, but I guess that’s especially true with twins! I sure enjoy the friendship that’s developed with my teens as well.

    1. Actually, Kym I think it is true for all parents. Life goes awfully fast and for me it is easy to get stuck focusing on what is wrong or what I should be doing instead of enjoying all that is around me. That said, I think that a lot of parents with twins tend to get overwhelmed, particularly in the early years – I know I sure did. Thanks for commenting! I will get over to your blog to read your posts from last week soon – it was a hectic weekend so I did not have a chance yet…

  2. I almost have a teenager now. I’m looking forward to what the high school years have to offer, especially when I read posts like this. Thanks!

    1. You are welcome! I am really starting to love these older kid years…
