Wandering Wednesday – A Trip To The Egyptian Museum

Having grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I visited the Egyptian museum a number of times as a child. By the time I was grown and homeschooling my kids, I overlooked the museum as something that would not be interesting.

It wasn’t until this summer that my daughter asked to visit the museum. My son was off at camp so the two of us spent an afternoon exploring all things Egypt.

Wow, was I surprised. She was so excited by all things Sumerian and the every day toys and pottery and tools that we saw.

If you are ever nearby and have an afternoon to spend, give the Egyptian museum a whirl.

Are you teaching ancient history this year in your homeschool? You will find piles of information to explore the time periods that make up ancient Egypt on their website. They cover everything from the Neolithic period to modern times and even have an interactive map that allows your child to investigate the high points of architecture and cities through history in the country. You will discover a large amount of free resources and information for your homeschool.

And if you don’t live anywhere nearby, you can take your children on a decent 360 degree virtual field trip.
