Proving Theorems With Sticky Origami

Making math sticky for kids can be a challenge. Bringing the sometimes dry concepts into the real world in different ways cement those concepts forever in your child’s brain. If you can manage it, you can even give them the tools to practice being a real mathematician – deriving the concepts instead of memorizing them. Then you are really teaching them math.

Vi Hart is one of my favorite mathematicians. She is young, and appeals to kids with her fresh outlook on mathematics. She is also very, very smart, and has a sense of humor to boot.

For something different, try out her method of proving the Pythagorean Theorem using origami and watch your kids truly understand what the formula means and why someone would care to learn it.
