P. D. Eastman – Where He Fits In History

Philip Dey “Phil” Eastman was born in November of 1909. Theodore Roosevelt ended his presidency and William Howard Taft started his term. It was the first year of the Indianapolis Speedway race, Robert Peary & Matthew Henson reach the North Pole, and the first Lincoln head pennies are minted.

Go, Dog, Go!

P.D. Eastman is one of those authors our parents grew up with. I loved Go Dog, Go! So did my kids. Dogs in cars racing around, headed through town and to picnics in the tops of trees.

These were wholesome books written with vocabulary that was easy for children to understand and also easy to learn to read. The stories bring forth days when children played in the streets and Mom cooked, and cleaned, and sewed their clothing while waiting for Dad to get home from work.
